New Swimmer Evaluations

New Swimmer Evaluation Sign-Up

If you are new to the 12 Oaks Torpedoes team we're super excited you're here! Welcome!  We love swimming and what better way to learn, practice and compete than with awesome neighborhood friends!  In an effort to make sure our new team members are comfortable and set up for success, we'd like the opportunity to see them swim and give practice group recommendations. Swimmers have the option to practice up or down in addition to their actual age group when needed to get the most out of practice.  We also want to be sure we have swimmers that will be able to safely participate in practices.  If you are not able to make these evaluations not to worry - please let Ali or Brady know when you attend your first practice session and they can watch and make any recommendations at that time.

Here are our general expectations as a general rule of thumb:

Mini's - should be comfortable putting their face in the water, wear goggles, ready to jump into lessons, can safely hang at the wall or on the rope between turns.

6&U (competitive team)- Swimmers should be able to complete 10-15 yards on their own. As the season progresses we will build their distance to 25 yards. (Competition distance is 15 yds)

7&8 - Swimmers should be able to swim 15-25 yards without touching the bottom and if they need a break should be able to hold a lane line or pool edge to catch their breath. Swimmers will compete 25 yards at meets.

9-10 - Swimmers should be able to complete multiple laps within a practice. Race distance is 25 yards at meets.

11+ Practices will consist of training all 4 strokes, flip turns and more. Distance will be greatest in this group.
